This was a beautiful home, renovated. It was spacious. It has 3 rooms, however only the room upstairs has an AC unit. The two rooms downstairs only have a ceiling fan. The weather is nice at night, so if it's windy it can be comfortable. It has a fridge, stove, microwave etc. We were provided with 4 water bottles in the fridge complementary which was nice. The greeting was nice and we felt at home. The area looks safe. Security guard at night on the block.

Matagalpa may be one of Nicaragua's small cities, but it...

Matagalpa may be one of Nicaragua's small cities, but it remains a fairly provincial and a nice place for good. If you are a coffee lover, that is a place to go and enjoy ground coffee all day long with traditional corn pastries, hot or cold beverages or main dishes. Here the nearby mountains around the city's central neighborhoods, are close from locals' minds, not to mention the country side.

The hike to the cross was amazing.

The hike to the cross was amazing. Best trail markers I have EVER seen! Mostly clean and shaded trail. The restaurants are really good on the other side of town by the WHITE church (not the pink one). People are friendly and more speak English here than you find in the south. I highly recommend the cafe next to the white church.

Aguali is set up high up on the Cerró Apante hill overlooking Matagalpa. It’s a nature lovers heaven, low impact development and an active sustainability teaching centre. It’s a great place to practice your Spanish, though English is also well understood. Guests arrive and try and stay in Spanish which is great. Mine is limited but improved. I started in a dorm and then extended my stay in the bungalow, I loved it there!
