Good and affordable hostel in the northernmost permanently inhibited town on Earth! The staff were really nice, the rooms were clean and had enough space to leave my luggage. Breakfast is also included, which consists of waffles and toasts with toppings of your choice. The location is quite nice as well, you can have a nice and scenic walk down to the city centre. I would more than recommend you to stay here if you're traveling on a budget and are looking for a nice affordable accommodation for your stay 🫶

It is my 5th year visiting. I love the place. If you like snowmobiling, go in March and April. The nature is majestic. The food is varied and of very good standards considering it is close to the North Pole.

This was our 2nd visit to experience the polar night this time. We love this town. It’s in a spectacular location has all the facilities you need, including great shops and restaurants (Skinboden, Fruene, Kroa, Stationen etc.) The Svalbard Museum is a real highlight. Another great aspect is the contrast between the main town centre and Nybyen, further down the valley. It’s a bit quieter there. The town is really well set up for booking adventure activities, such as dog sledding, snow mobiling and guided hikes in the surrounding mountains. You can do this in the Visit Svalbard office in the Main Street. All in all, a fabulous and charming place to stay.

The town itself feels like a ski resort - stay more than a couple of days and you'll feel like you're starting to know everyone :) Very walkable, even in winter, with tons of boutique shops, a yoga studio, gym, sauna and a supermarket - there is something here for all budgets. Kroa and Svalbar are good casual dining options, Saenphet Thai was superb, and don't miss Vinterhagen at Mary-Anns Polarrigg! The Husky Cafe is also worth a visit.

To be in this icy wilderness is a real pleasure and despite that, the town maintains a level of coziness. The tours are fantastic. Ice cave hike, coal mine tours, beer tasting at the most northerly brewery in the world. Residents and travellers from all over the world with a great spirit about them. Not expensive to fly to any more and going in summer, winter and the shoulder seasons is like taking completely different holidays so reasons to return.

This is the second time I have traveled to Longyearbyen and I am already planning my third trip back. I usually travel during October, which usually means less people because it's just before polar night begins. Where do I even begin... The food, the people, the history, the scenery... It's all incredible! If you want to go somewhere different, and don't mind the cold (like, COLD cold!), I highly recommend coming here! Just be sure to book some tours and excursions, as there isn't too much to do in town, and you will need someone with a rifle with you to go outside of the town limits due to polar bears. Definitely try the reindeer stew at Stationen (it's absolutely incredible!) then pop over across the hall to have a drink at the northernmost pub in the world! And if you are lucky enough to be here when MS Bard, the hybrid electric catamaran boat, is running the dinner cruise, DO IT! They also run tours during the day where the captain chooses where y'all go depending on season, weather, wildlife, etc. The ATV tours are also really fun if you want to go up to the old coal mines. There's also a husky cafe where you can sip some coffee or hot chocolate with some retired sled dogs. No matter the season, you can also book some sled dog tours. If there's no snow, they use wagons. You can book tours on the Visit Svalbard website. Happy Traveling!!!

Svalbard is unique and probably not for everyone.

Svalbard is unique and probably not for everyone. If you want adventure where not much people go, and where everything seems from another planet, this is the place to be. You will either get 24/7 daylight or complete darkness in this place. Getting essentials is not as trivial as in the mainland. Wildlife is in a different level (yes there are polar bears roaming the island). Ice caves and glaciers all around. It all adds up to an unforgetable experience and not many people dare to live.

Stayed here for three nights prior to joining a boat and for 1 after. This is a wonderful quirky hotel and I'm glad I chose it. There is a comfortable sitting room for the use of guests and good connection to their airport. Our first room, which was a twin room was tiny, the room when we returned was much better. On both occasions the rooms were spotless, the beds comfortable the black out blinds were excellent. The breakfast was good, there was plenty of choice.

This was an excellent hotel, the location is great next to two restaurants and all the shops. The rooms are big and cozy and the reception area is great with a view of fire place and complimentary tea and coffee for the guests. The hotel restaurant is also great and the breakfast has a decent variety of items from pancakes to soft boiled eggs, porridge etc.

Fantastic stay at this Longyearbyen apartment! Perfect location—close to town with stunning Arctic views. The place was clean, warm, and well-equipped (reliable Wi-Fi, full kitchen). The host was responsive, provided clear check-in instructions, and offered helpful local tips. It made our Svalbard adventure truly special. Highly recommended!
