We have stayed at this hotel many times. It is the only hotel we stay at when we drive through this area. This is such an upscale boutique hotel at an extremely reasonable cost, in a quiet, scenic river setting. The rooms and beds are comfortable and 5 star. We love that even as upscale as this hotel is, they are dog friendly! The balconies are beautiful..I highly recommend the deluxe balcony. The breakfast is amazing, fresh fruits, fresh orange juice, delicious homebaked pastries. The best part of the hotel is the staff. The personal attention they give the guests is another main reason why we keep coming back.

Taken from the municipality website …” The Convent of Desagravo do Santíssimo Sacramento in Vila Pouca da Beira was founded in the second half of the 18th century by the town council, nobility and people, in accordance with the Royal and Episcopal Provision that authorized its establishment.”. Adelina was wonderful! We arrived at the tiny but beautiful village on a cold and rainy day. After snuggling in and heating our little house, Adelina came by and offered to make us supper. She made us a great supper and we enjoyed every minute of her and her husband's company. We used Google translate to our good advantage. Enjoyed the supper she made in the local community building and watched some football with the locals. We were supposed to spend the next night in nearby Piodao but scrapped that for an extra night in Porto due to the cold weather. We did visit Piodao and found it to be overly commercial where as Arganil really seemed like the real deal.
