Sadly, the downfall to my trip was watching the kittens in...
Sadly, the downfall to my trip was watching the kittens in Mahdia collected in cages from the hotels to be taken away to be destroyed. This is a regular occurrence. Dogs are shot by Police and then left to die. There is only one rescue centre run by an exhausted French woman.

A truly nice, charming and relaxed town, with large historic significance and enough interesting sites to keep you busy. Also a great base for a daytrip to El Jem. In warmer months (end of April / early May are definitely not the good time) you can also enjoy the beach.

There is nice clubs in Mahdia.
There is nice clubs in Mahdia. I can not say it is safe but did not encountered anything while we were outside, but we got lots of attention. Only problem is that when you land in main airport you need to take 3 hours taxi ride which costs around 80£ to get there.

Absolutely wonderful guesthouse in the Medina of Mahdia with 5 rooms. It's a close walk to the shops and restaurants, but you feel far away from any crazy tourist hotspot. The breakfast was delicious and could be eaten on the roof terrace overlooking the sea. The room was cosy and comfortable. Everyone was so helpful and friendly. One of my favourite places I stayed.

The best thing about the location was that the beach was 3 minutes from the hotel, they did shisha (extra fee), quick service overall when requesting some drinks etc.
