My big thank you for the reception on Wednesday morning who allowed me to check in early after my train ride. I loved the hotel location along the Kanawha River, which I could also admire from my room. The hotel from the ground floor up felt like you were in a comfortable apartment, and it was surely helped by all the friendly staff. I had a really nice breakfast with potatoes, sausages, fried eggs, and coffee. It was a warm place in the middle of wintery December in West Virginia.

The people in Charleston are great!

The people in Charleston are great! We visited the Capitol and museum and loved it, but outside of that the city seems to be struggling. We enjoyed an outdoor venue in the city center and the food was good everywhere we went--all local, no chains. The Charleston Mall needs to be bulldozed! There's so much potential here and it is untapped for sure!

We needed to ask for another room because the first room someone had been smoking in it even through it was a non-smoking room. The second room was not good as there were exposed wires hanging out of the air-conditioner which would have been a hazard to children.; however they were capped. The tub wasn't handicapped and I needed my husband to help me into the tub because I had two knee replacements and unable to get in without help. The TV remote wasn't working and they gave us 2 more that didn't work and we had to manually change the channels. The channel guide was incorrect that was in the room. The room was too close to the highway and loud traffic was interfering with our sleep; the toilet was "screaming" every time it flushed.

Our original purpose for visiting Charleston was to visit all of the locations that feature in the video game Fallout 76. However, we ended up finding much more to enjoy than we had originally planned for. The Charleston Historical district was lively at Christmas time with lights displays and nativity scenes, and was brilliant for a night out. Additionally, the waterfall trail through the countryside was breath-taking.

Charleston is an okay city.

Charleston is an okay city. While there we were freaked out by the homeless person statue that we passed by walking down the street. It was a bench with what appeared to be a homeless person laying on it covered up with a blanket. We thought it was a real person and it just about gave us heart attacks! Then there was a homeless lady who we could see from our hotel sleeping out on the street, it was single digit weather and she spent the night huddled up against a building. It was very sad.

"Dear Marriott Team,

"Dear Marriott Team, I was extremely disappointed with my recent stay at the Charleston West Virginia Marriott. The customer service was poor, and the facilities seemed outdated. The shower in my room had cold water only, and despite notifications to the front desk, the issue was not addressed. I was expecting a more comfortable and welcoming experience, but unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, Tanita Kendry

Charleston, WV is a picturesque little city with lots of southern charm. The locals are friendly and local bites are great. The capitol is larger than life and peeks out of the center of town right along Kanawha Boulevard. The architecture of the Victorian homes along the boulevard are lovely. Fernbanks has great burgers (the Goat burger is amazing!) Pies & Pints has a great selection of pizza and beer such as Bells Amber Ale

The Charleston Holiday Inn was fantastic for our stay in West Virginia. It is close in proximity to the city's historical district which is perfect for dinner or a night out. Parking is convenient and plentiful too. Rooms are well kept, spacious, and clean. Beds were comfortable and the breakfast was very tasty with a good variety.
