It's a town undergoing its own Renaissance.
It's a town undergoing its own Renaissance. From poor coal mining to slowly transitioning to a quaint small town. Work a Mayberry vibe. It's also the gateway to the best riding (motorcycle) on the east coast. The back of the dragon starts in Tazewell. They have most modern amenities. Food Lion, hospital, restaurants, micro breweries. And all with the incredible mountains as a back drop wherever you look.

The woman at the front desk absolutely wouldn't let my son bring my clothes to my room , my work schedule is difficult to explain but I tried to tell her it would be very early when I got back an I just wanted to get some sleep. But she absolutely would not let me talk an cut me off saying no you no stay here! I booked it for a week to. So long story short I didn't have a place to sleep that day.

Back of the Dragon was great.
Back of the Dragon was great. We enjoyed Historic Crab Orchard museum. We hit Old VA Chop House on Trivia night. Did not enjoy the distraction while eating. The Italian Village had too long a wait, get there early.

We came to Tazewell to ride the Back of the Dragon and the Claw of the Dragon.
We found the local residents and businesses to be very friendly and helpful. Everyone seemed genuine and heled us feel welcome to this small community.
One thing we would have liked to see more of is restaurant options. Choices are limited in town.

It was a great value for the money. The staff was friendly enough. The pool was nice and obviously maintained even though I didn't get to use it. They also allowed us to use our grill in the parking lot to grill out some food, which I very much appreciated! the bed was nice and comfortable and was remade on our second day Overall it's a decent motel on the way to Tazewell.

It has always been hard to find a place to stay in Tazewell. Location was great, cost was good, no one cleaned under the beds or took down the dirty towels from previous travelers. Overall, we enjoyed the place and enjoyed our stay.

Rustic, quiet and relaxing. Was on the Back of the Dragon, which our main reason for the trip was to ride the Back of the Dragon. I really like that they honor fallen law enforcement officers.
