Beautiful place, very private, good for a short visit.

Nice guesthouse with 2 double rooms (one with a queen bed for 2 people and the second one with two separate twin beds). The guesthouse also has a nice private parking space and a large kitchen & seating that are shared for the two rooms. Considering the mountain environment and the altitude the guest house is very nice, convenient and clean. There's a private bathroom for each of the rooms. As a family with 2 kids we booked both the rooms and the whole guesthouse was available for us. We are very happy we stayed here and would be happy to come again. The owner is very helpful and friendly and lives in a house next to the guest house. The guest house is located in mountains in the altitude of 1950m, at a village of Al Ahyl. The guest house is 50m from the main mountain road. It takes one hour to drive from the Shell Al Hamra fuel station. The first 20km is a nice asphalt, then around 10 km non-asphalt road (but we made it with our non-4WD rental car without issues) and the up in the mountains the last 5 km is again a nice asphalt road. Just in front of the guest house there is a very nice small supermarket with wide choice and normal prices. You can buy food there to cook in the kitchen. Next to the supermarket there's a mosque. The closest cafeteria is Cliff café, couple of minutes of drive further, but it looks very touristic, non-local. For mountains, our first day we parked in front of Sama Heights Resort, 1km down the asphalt road and walked to the southern peak of Jabal Shams. The other peak (highest in fact) is a military radar and is not open for public. The hike is in principle easy, just walking 10 km (each direction) up the hill (1000m higher). With kids it took us a kind of 12 hours return. Very nice nature and very few tourists. The second day we went to the famous balcony hike. For this you drive 4 km further where the last 1 km is quite bad road for a normal car. The balcony hike is very touristic including the coffee places around.

The farm grounds were fantastic - the pool and surrounding area was clean, there were many different options for outdoor seating, the baboons were interesting (but is it fair to keep baboons in a cage in the middle of Oman?!) and the maintenance guy was quite helpful and friendly. Although not in great condition, the pool table and ping pong tables were fun for kids. The owner was lovely and couldn’t do enough for us. He brought us extra kitchen items when requested as well as coffee and dates. He checked on us regularly via WhatsApp.

Apartments very clean, perfumed. Good location especially who comes to hikes. View to mountains. Host offers to order breakfast and dinner. We order dinner. It was delivered at the time as agreed. I recommend ordering. The food is home-made, individually for you. Very tasty, varied. There was a lot of food, we felt a little guilty that we couldn't eat it all. The host is very honest. Price for apartments and dinner was very affordable.

Cleanness, privacy, family place, stunning location, weather, host welcoming nature, facility and accessories provided. Overall a very nice experience.
