The location was great, you can practically see the hotel from the station. The fridge was stocked with water, beers and snacks which was very nice. The bedding was comfortable. The check-in and check-out were easy. Because all smaller rooms were booked, we stayed in a room with two bunk beds even though there were just two of us. The room was huge with a balcony; it would be perfect for a family.

Awara Onsen Matuya Sen Sen provides a sauna and free private parking, and is within 12 miles of Phoenix Plaza and 12 miles of Fukui International Activities Plaza.

A great variety of food at dinner and breakfast meals. The older building was just as we imagined. The private bath in the older portion of the onsen ryokan was perfect. We enjoyed the garden and the complimentary drinks and snacks at happy hour.

As I didn't eat at the hotel, I cannot make any judgment about the food quality, but for me the access to several top onsen in the hotel, beside the several public ones in the town made my stay at the hotel very pleasant. One of them is even open all night long until 10AM. My traditional bedroom was also a strong point. At some point after I checked in, someone came and prepared my bed. The staff was very nice, and despite their limited English, made its utmost to serve me. The hotel is located within 5 minutes from a bus station, close to Awaraonsen and from which you can board a bus to Eihei-ji temple or Tojimbo in the other direction. If you wish to visit both places, you can buy a two day pass for this bus line.

Located within 13 miles of Phoenix Plaza and 13 miles of Fukui International Activities Plaza, Auberge Homachi Mikuniminato provides rooms in Sakai. This 4-star hotel offers a 24-hour front desk.

The staff service was exceptional. The property we stayed at was very nice, clean, and convenience from the main office.

We loved our stay 2 night stay in the private Onsen suite. The kaiseki dinner and breakfasts were delicious and filling without making you uncomfortably full. The private Onsen and bath were fantastic and overlooked the gorge. It was so peaceful and so nice to get up in the morning and just sink in and soak while waiting for breakfast. The staff were amazingly friendly though be aware that English can be a bit difficult. It is Japan though so this isn’t a negative. The location was great, out of the way but a very easy, leas than 5 minute walk to the main town street and entrance to the gorge. 10 minutes walking you can get to the cozy and beautiful gorge cafe, we read books, ate cake, and drank tea there. Was fantastic for a relaxing visit.

Boasting a hot spring bath, Yamanaka Onsen Kissho Yamanaka is 25 minutes by shuttle bus from JR Kagaonsen Station. Private hot spring baths are available for free.

The staff was amazing, very helpful and thoughtful. The room was beautiful, the private onsen was large with a sizable patio, dinner was delicious.
