Communication with the onwer was great! She responded to my messages within minutes! Great location close to the train station, if you are visiting Utsunomiya without a car and are here for sightseeing, I strongly recommend stay near the train station. Side note, you can buy a one day discounted sightseeing pass at the tourist information counter in train station for ¥2,000, cash only. All the guests were respectful and quiet during my 2 night stay. Someone in the review had mentioned there is a love hotel nearby, I was a bit concerned, but lemme tell you I walked by there at night, if you didn’t know it was a love hotel you would have no way to tell. It’s very quiet and looks just like a normal hotel, I feel very safe here as a solo female traveler. 100% recommend.

Hiro was freindly, communicative and helpful and his house is well set up for guests. We were there in winter. It would be lovely to stay in Spring or Summer and see the garden.

The owner is absolutely lovely, if you have any questions or requests she is always prepared to see what see can do for you. The facilities exceeded my expectations, and the atmosphere of the house was warm so it almost felt like coming home after a day of sightseeing. I visited during the low season, so the house was very quiet, but regardless had a comfortable stay and still met some other travelers.

We booked a last minute trip to Nikko, this guesthouse was perfect. Great price, comfortable, clean, and parking right next door. It’s close to a train station (not sure which one), and a short ride to the UNESCO temple sites. Beds were comfortable and whole house was very clean!

There was a special feeling of camaraderie among staff and visiting guests. The bbq facilities and access to the huge kitchen was a plus. Will definitely be back. We also were able to see active loading, firing of one of the amazing ceramic kilns on site. Wow!
