Our host was very accommodating, and our room was perfect with kettle for coffee/tea in the morning, a/c and a common area fridge to use. Our host loaned us bikes to do the ancient city which was great. Breakfasts in the morning, very good.

Nice and clean room. Very nice and kind people. We booked a Safari trip and rent bicycles here. They where very helpful and everything was good arranged! We also ate dinner here, this tasted good!! Thank you so much for having us!

Very unique stay, close to nature, very kind host and great activities to choose from! The cabin is clean and comfortable, parking spot is useful and very close to the ancient city of Polonnaruwa. The breakfast was delicious and we absolutely enjoyed the boat ride early in the morning out on the lake!

The accomodation is 5 min drive to Ancient ruins and large town, but has a nice quiet location with fields infront. The accomodation was fresh and new with a comfortable mattress and it had a working smart TV, which is the first I've had on a 2 week stay in Sri Lanka. The host was kind and helpful, giving us a lift to a restaurant on our first night, then to the ancient ruins the next day and arranging bikes. He also arranged a taxi to Ella for us (with a careful driver!) when we checked out

Impressive! Honestly, the best accommodation near Polonnaruwa. The place was incredibly clean — truly spotless. The cleanest place we stayed in during our entire trip around Sri Lanka. Wherever you looked, there wasn’t a single hair, insect, or speck of dust. Absolutely perfect, and best of all, it was extremely quiet and peaceful. The rooms are very spacious and completely new. They have both air conditioning and a fan, which is perfect. The bathroom is fully enclosed, which is great. There is also a private entrance and a beautiful little front patio where you can watch squirrels and small birds. There is also a small kitchen where you can prepare your own breakfast or a light meal, with a kettle, kitchenette, and basic cooking utensils. The family who runs the place is wonderful — incredibly kind, welcoming, and helpful. The father even helped me find a laundry service at a very good price. There is a supermarket and several fruit shops just five minutes away. The location is actually a big advantage: it’s outside the busy center, so it’s much more peaceful and relaxing, but still perfectly located to explore the whole area.

Such lovely hosts, They provided a delicious traditional dinner when we arrived on request. Power cut so very apologetic and provided candles, a UV strip light and turned on car headlights so we could see while eating! Close to historic site.

I recently stayed at Thambara Resort in Polonnaruwa with my wife, and I must say – it was one of the best hotel experiences we’ve ever had! The location is perfect – just about 100 meters from both the Polonnaruwa railway station and bus station. It’s also very close to the main town, with lots of restaurants and supermarkets nearby, which made our stay even more convenient. What really made our trip special was the hospitality. Mr. Priyantha, the owner, is an incredibly friendly and welcoming person. He made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The hotel staff were equally amazing – super helpful, polite, and always ready to assist with a smile. The rooms were spotless, very comfortable, and gave off a luxurious vibe. We were honestly surprised by how well-maintained and beautifully designed everything was. You can truly relax and enjoy your time here. If you’re planning a visit to Polonnaruwa, I highly recommend staying at Thambara Resort. It’s a hidden gem with top-notch service, comfort, and hospitality.

Our host Pradeep and his family were excellent hosts. Pradeep especially was very kind and attentive to our needs. He gave us very good advice about visiting Polonnaruwa and brought us rental bicycles, which were the perfect way to see the ancient city. It would be difficult to find an accommodation any closer to the city and, if you are traveling on a budget, this spot provides an outstanding value for the price. Pradeep’s wife cooked us some excellent meals and we found the place to be very well kept. We would stay here again and recommend it to others.
