I was in the female-only dorm, which is already always a plus for me. The room was air-conditioned and had its own bathroom. On top of this all the staff is very friendly. The host George cooks dinner every night and for 15-20 Bulgarian lev (depending on the meal) you can eat a good dinner right there at the hostel. It feels like a small family, which is great, and it's a very relaxed place. The beach is only a 15 minute walk away. Very happy with my stay here.

It’s bed and shower and if you don’t stay long it’s fine. They let me leave my bags in the room until 2 and come take them later. Quiet overall as most guests also minded their business.

So, just want to get a couple things straight before reviewing. This place, while I was there, was being run by the ACTUAL owner who speaks very good English and has travelled quite a bit. She is cordial and obviously knows the ins and outs of her own hostel (her house is within the property) and the area. Very willing to answer any queries and chat. But obviously I can’t say what it would be like if she wasn’t there or if the place was at capacity. I can’t speak for other times of the year, but for the days I spent there, it was really nice. There is a brand new bathroom, kitchen unit and a nice leisure upper-space where you can chillout and have a glimpse of the Black Sea. The bathroom and shower are across (the lower leisure area) from the actual rooms, but really, if you are a true hosteller and adventure traveller with even a modicum of adaptation skills, this shouldn’t be a problem. If you want the Carlton Ritz, then pay for it! The price of this hostel is commensurate with the Bulgarian lifestyle and is fair. The hostel is nestled in a small suburb of Varna so if you don’t like being “off” in a quieter place, maybe this isn’t for you! Also if you have been known to have skewed and unreasonable expectations in life, this is not for you. The area is quaint with a couple decent restaurants (cash only), a central grocery store (all the necessities and takes cards) and the sea all within walking distance. Also a couple really nice walking paths, a lighthouse and bakeries. All things considered, I give it a 10. Thanks to R., the little ticket-taker and Moritz!
