Painted Turtle Guesthouse was awesome. The kitchen and the communal space was very clean and spacious. Location was exceptional. John was wonderful providing great recommendations on hikes and so helpful with any questions I had.

The bed, pillow, duvet, were so comfortable. Situated in a very quiet corner of Ukee, it felt so calm and surreal sleeping and waking up here. Even though I was on the upper bunk, I woke up just to the views of the trees and the windows, it was all very calming. The bathrooms were very clean and the showers seemed like they’re new. The common area, the couch next to the bookshelf overlooking this large window. I would’ve loved it if this was my home.

I was in Nanaimo for a trail race on Sunday morning and arrived at the university residence in the early evening. For a very reasonable price, you get a comfortable room with everything you need. Staying on campus gave me a real Canadian student experience, which I thoroughly enjoyed. One of the highlights was the beautiful stadium right next door, perfect for a run or an evening walk. I also witnessed one of the most beautiful sunsets of my Canadian trip there, shared with some of the local residents—the rabbits that happily roam the campus. The staff was incredibly kind and welcoming, always happy to share recommendations and local tips. A great option for anyone looking for simple, affordable accommodation with a unique atmosphere.
