The spacious attic apartment of the Quellhütte is perfect for groups and large families who want to explore the diverse mountain landscape in every direction. And there’s a special bonus: between early May and the end of October, your booking includes the "Wilde Wunder Card". With it, you can visit many attractions within an hour’s drive free of charge. The 'Dachbod'n' apartment varies in size depending on the number of people booked (4-10 persons, 103-153m²). Please take a look at the floor plan in the property photos. At check-in, you will receive the keys according to the occupancy you have booked. Please note that the mandatory local tourism tax of EUR 2.50 per night (from 1.12.2026 EUR 2,80) for guests over 15 years of age will not be charged by BOOKING, but will be collected in cash at check-in. The generous room sizes are part of the house’s history. It was built in 1910 by the City of Vienna on the centuries-old foundations of a former monastic outpost, serving as a new school at the time. The house stands right next to the spring tunnel that still feeds the fountain today — and which gave the “Quellhütte” its name. This spring is part of Vienna’s Second Mountain Spring Water Pipeline. The building itself is a solid log construction, with large rooms over three meters high. This slightly wild blend of hunting lodge and bourgeois villa gives this “grand old lady” among the buildings of Weichselboden her very special charm.

I first got to know — and fall in love with — the Salzatal in the 1980s through whitewater kayaking. Even back then, I somehow instinctively knew that one day I would live here. And that’s exactly how it turned out. Today, I’m truly happy to share my love for this wild and beautiful landscape with my guests and everyone staying at the Quellhütte.

The Quellhütte sits at the foot of the Hochschwab, surrounded by a truly unique mountain backdrop — just 100 meters from the pebble beach of the Salza river and right at the entrance to a 10 km long, secluded and wildly romantic gorge called the Klausgraben. Thanks to Vienna’s famous mountain spring water pipeline, nature conservation has had absolute priority in this region for over a century. Wilderness areas, nature parks, dramatic gorges with secured trails, mysterious caves — there are few places in Austria where you can experience such raw and untouched nature up close. And around the nearby ski lift areas, there are also wonderful options for families who prefer to explore the mountains in a slightly less sweat-inducing way — especially since the lift ticket is already included with the Wilde Wunder Card. And don’t forget to take a walk under the starry sky in front of the Quellhütte. Very often, it’s the simple things that leave the deepest impression.
