Set in Glenfern, this architect-designed rural retreat is located in a quiet, secluded and peaceful bush valley, southwest of New Norfolk. Base Camp Tasmania is the ideal getaway for travellers, outdoor lovers and anyone seeking a peaceful place to relax and unwind. A Protected Area on Private Land (subject to a Conservation Covenant), Base Camp Tasmania abounds in native Tasmanian wildlife including pademelons, Bennett's wallabies, echidnas, wombats, spotted quolls, and brushtail possums.

Base Camp Tasmania has been owned and run by Steve and Alana since 2022. They moved from Western Australia with their young family to embrace a new adventure in the Tasmanian bush. While things take a little longer with children in tow these days, Steve and Alana enjoy hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, trail running and exploring the beautiful state of Tasmania. They both love the outdoors and are excited to share their little slice of paradise with guests from near and far. Steve loves chatting to guests and sharing his knowledge about the animals that call Base Camp home, while Alana juggles the kids and the daily behind the scenes! They love hearing about their guests' adventures and always strive to make their stay as memorable as possible.

Enjoy our walking trail and the variety of unique Tasmanian animals, birdlife and flora on this 41 hectare property, or take an easy drive to some of Tasmania’s most renowned World Heritage wilderness areas. Base Camp is less than an hours drive to Mt Field National Park, Maydena Mountain Bike Park, Styx Tall Trees Conservation Area and other hiking areas. The Salmon Ponds and Plenty Cider are close by, and the town of New Norfolk is a 20 minute drive. There is a beautiful river walk in New Norfolk, a Saturday market, the famed Agrarian Kitchen (including guided garden tours and ghost tours) and a main street full of unique shops to explore. Hobart is less than an hour away and guests often use Base Camp as a base for exploring tourist attractions further afield.
