This Beachfront apartment is a cosy retreat, self-contained with full kitchen, living room and two bedrooms. The bathroom features a spa bath with mosaics by local artist Carol Glass. The decor features local Tasmanian art. The apartment is warm with heaters in every room. There is a work station with wifi and an extensive library. Ocean views from every room with easy access to the beach. Outside, guests can enjoy a morning coffee on the dolerite rock slab, overlooking the ocean toward Antarctica! Dolphins and seals are regular visitors. Fairy penguins nest on the cliffs nearby. The beach is a popular spot for Aurora chasers. It is a quiet base for local coastal exploration: snorkelling, kayaking and walking the coastal trail. The apartment is 12 minutes drive from the city
We love living in this piece of paradise beside the sea. I swim every morning, winter and summer. Our summer fun is snorkelling along the rock ledges and looking for crayfish in the Fisheries reserve. We regularly kayak along to the wilds of Alum Cliffs and check out the penguin burrows. As hosts we love to share this special place with our guests. We love to travel and have visited over 75 countries so we enjoy sharing travel stories. We also enjoy exploring the natural gems of Tasmania and are happy to provide travel tips to guests new to Tasmania.
Taroona is a safe, quiet neighbourhood skirting the sea but just 12 minutes from the city and 30 minutes drive from the airport. The Shot Tower, one km away, is Taroona's most important landmark and one of Tasmania's most historic industrial buildings. It was completed in 1871 and is 58 metres tall. It was Australia's tallest building for 4 years! You can climb to the top for a beautiful view over Taroona and Storm Bay. From the Shot Tower there is a walking track all the way to Kingston through coastal forest with spectacular cliff views. Taroona Park at the end of the street includes a barbeque area, fitness circuit, a skate park and the Taroona Neighbourhood Garden (Look for Nel’s Patch!). A historical feature in the park, Bachelor's Grave, marks the first sailor to be buried in Tasmania.
