Close to Stanthorpe, Galah Cottage is a newly fitted out three bedroom cottage on Mountain Park, a 1,085ha working cattle property on the northern fringe of the Granite Belt Wine Country. It is just outside the most northerly township of Dalveen so it is really well located if you are coming up from Brisbane after work. We are about two and a quarter hours from Brisbane with bitumen to the front gate so it is an easy trip. Our Cottage is about 900m above sea level, is in a beautiful, fairly secluded spot and the area is sometimes quite cold so the internal and external fire places come in handy. The wildlife is everywhere and the night sky is just magical. Artists and bush walkers love this country because they can unwind however they please. We are just 4km from the nearest winery, 8 minutes from the best apple pie, 10 minutes from a decent breakfast and less than 20 minutes from Woolworths and IGA in Stanthorpe. Cheese lovers can get their thrills nearby. Great fruit is also available locally. We've tried to bring nature into the cottage so we have virtually no curtains. It is such a lovely place.

Mountain Park has been our home for more than 20 years although we have been in the area for more than 60 years. But we have also lived overseas and been great travellers so we have a good idea about the facilities people need and what they want to see. We love the wallabies, kangaroos, echidnas and the many, many beautiful birds, the relative seclusion, wonderful clean air and the brilliant night skies.

Wineries, breweries and eating spots stretch right throughout the area. We are lucky to have a lot of good food and wine within a couple of minutes. Granite Belt Wine Country is known for its wine but also has extensive fruit and vegetable growing areas. Apples, stone fruit and berries are available to sample and purchase. Group tours are available and just ask if you need to be picked up after a long afternoon at a winery. Girraween, Bald Rock, Boonoo Boonoo and Sundowner National Parks are quite unique and the many waterfalls (Queen Mary, Dags, Browns, Undercliffe, Boonoo Boonoo and Foxbat) are just lovely after rain. An old steam train runs occasionally through the area and is a lot of fun.
