Elevated above the river. Open views to the bay. Shepherd’s Cottage sits just above the rivulet, looking down to the water and across farmland to Great Oyster Bay. Built in the early 1800s from original rubble stone, it pairs historic character with light-filled, open interiors. The living space runs long and open, with a generous kitchen at one end, dining flowing through to the main living area centred around the wood fire. Large timber windows connect to the landscape, offering a place to sit and watch birdlife along the river. Interiors are simple and layered, with vintage furniture, Tasmanian artwork, and books and games for time spent inside. Upstairs, the bedroom is expansive, with a king bed beneath a vaulted ceiling and views across the estate, river and bay. The bathroom is light-filled with a walk-in shower. Outside, the garden is edged with established trees and looks toward the river, with a barbecue nearby. From the gate, a track leads down to the rivulet and out to Lisdillon’s private, unspoiled beaches. Shepherd’s Cottage is set up for two, offering space, privacy and a quiet connection to the landscape. Lisdillon Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc are available to order and delivered to your cottage. Guest access Guests have access to Lisdillon Estate, a coastal landscape of vineyards and farmland along Great Oyster Bay. Tracks lead to the rivulet and three beaches, two privately owned by the estate and the southernmost, Saltworks Beach, largely undisturbed. The lagoon and river offer calm water for swimming, kayaking and fishing, with rods available. You may find bream, trevally, Australian salmon, brown trout or eels. Beaches provide clear water for swimming and snorkelling around Mitchell’s Reef, with the old jetty posts along the shore. For surfers, a reef break forms when conditions align. The wider property offers longer walks, a deeper swimming spot upstream known as the Black Pool, and access to kayaks and bikes for exploring.

Positioned on Tasmania’s East Coast, the property is approximately 25 minutes from the Maria Island ferry, gateway to Maria Island — a car-free national park known for its abundant wildlife, historic convict ruins, scenic cycling tracks, and walking trails to Painted Cliffs and Fossil Cliffs. The cottage is also just over 1 hour from Freycinet National Park, home to some of Tasmania’s most iconic coastal landscapes, including Wineglass Bay, white-sand beaches, granite peaks, and a network of walking tracks ranging from short lookouts to full-day hikes.
