In early 2024, the property was purchased by Matthew and Amanda, a young couple with two children and a farming/nursing background. With a passion for their local community and a vision for a thriving Smithton, they are continuing to modernise and improve the accommodation while keeping its welcoming, tranquil spirit. Matthew and Amanda love sharing the stunning sunsets, waterways, and farmland views with visitors, ensuring every guest experiences the best of Tasmania’s northwest.
Smithton, on Tasmania’s far northwest coast, is a lively rural hub set along the scenic Duck River, where walking trails, kayaking, and fresh oysters at Duck Bay draw visitors year-round. The town blends history and hospitality at the Circular Head Heritage Centre and Visitor Information Centre—complete with a café, local museum, and artisan cheese tastings. Cafés and eateries showcase fresh regional produce, while Apex Lookout offers sweeping views of the river estuary and Bass Strait. As the gateway to the Tarkine Wilderness, Dip Falls, and Woolnorth’s rugged Cape Grim, Smithton is both a welcoming township and a springboard to some of Tasmania’s most dramatic natural landscapes.
