The Strahan Holiday Retreat once only comprised of a small area where rooms 1-26 are now located. In 1994, when construction of what was the Strahan Holiday Park commenced, excavation works came across some large solid logs buried deep within the ground. The logs were about 2 meters long and 250 millimeters round, and were still in good condition. They were found right out side room number 25. Further examination of the logs revealed they were of the world famous Huon pine. The oil inside, Mythel Eugenol preserve's the pine, stopping it from rotting. But why were they there? Rumored to have been strategically placed there to shore up a trench during World War II in case of a bombing, this very property could have once been a place of refuge. The West Coast supplied most of the timber for the Pacific Campaign during the War; dominantly Huon pine. All West Coast towns were required to have a power black out every night in order to hide from air raids. Just ask Snowy; he runs the Morrisons Huon Pine Sawmill on the wharf in Strahan. He will tell you all about the Huon and its contribution to the war.

Ruggedly beautiful, the West Coast has been a Hell on Earth to many who have traversed the region. The area is wild and wet, with much of its coastline un-landable and its rivers raging. It is easy to become isolated, with not a single sole near you for to 100 km or more. At the Strahan Holiday Retreat, we encourage you to realx, and soothe yourself in the solitude our location has to offer. Listen to native birds calling, as Manuka Creek winds through and around the property. For the watchful eyes, our resident platypus frolics in naturally tinted waters, and can be seen from our many view platforms or private balcony's. The most centrally located property with only a 7 minute stroll around to the main strip - the Esplanade, where many attractions that make Strahan one of Tasmania's premier destinations can be found.

Centrally located, the Retreat offers 2 minute access to the local swimming beach, adventure playground and local school yard. Taking up a large 11 acre block, the property offers a private ambiance with no hustle and bustle from tour operators, buses or taxis. Only your own car and our work vehicles are permitted onsite.
