Set on Lisdillon Estate, Blacksmith’s Cottage offers access to over 4km of private coastline, with the rivulet flowing just below the cottage. Swim, kayak, or settle by the fire with a glass of Lisdillon Pinot Noir in this 19th-century rubble-stone retreat. Blacksmith’s Cottage is one of Lisdillon’s original buildings, constructed by convict hands in the early to mid-1800s. Built from local rubble stone and set above the rivulet, it carries a strong sense of its history — simple, grounded, and quietly atmospheric. Inside, the spaces are warm and comfortable, centred around the wood fire. Timber, stone and soft light create a calm, settled interior — a place to return to after time outdoors. Upstairs, the main bedroom looks out over the river and surrounding landscape. The cottage sits within open farmland, with its own private garden and a deck overlooking the estate. The river draws birdlife including swans, pelicans and, at times, wedge-tailed eagles. The kitchen is compact and well-equipped for everyday cooking, with a barbecue on the deck for outdoor meals. Two bedrooms accommodate up to four guests, offering a relaxed and unhurried stay. Guests have access to Lisdillon Estate — a private coastal property stretching from farmland to sea. Follow tracks to the rivulet and along the shoreline, where three beaches sit along Great Oyster Bay. Two are private, and the third remains largely undisturbed. Swim or kayak in the river, explore longer walks to the blowhole and old saltworks, or wander upstream to a deeper swimming spot known as the Black Pool. Kayaks and bikes are available to explore the property.

Positioned on Tasmania’s East Coast, the property is approximately 25 minutes from the Maria Island ferry, gateway to Maria Island — a car-free national park known for its abundant wildlife, historic convict ruins, scenic cycling tracks, and walking trails to Painted Cliffs and Fossil Cliffs. The cottage is also just over 1 hour from Freycinet National Park, home to some of Tasmania’s most iconic coastal landscapes, including Wineglass Bay, white-sand beaches, granite peaks, and a network of walking tracks ranging from short lookouts to full-day hikes.
