The fine print
According to Brazilian Federal Law 8.069 / 1990, children under 18 years of age can not check in at hotels unless accompanied by their parents or an official. If the child is accompanied by an adult who is not a parent, a written authorization must be given so that the child can check in at the hotel. This authorization must be notarized and must be signed by both parents and be accompanied by certified copies of the parents' identity documents.
Please note that all children under 18 years of age must also present a valid photo ID that proves their identity and that of their parents. This document should be presented even if the minor is accompanied by his parents.
If the minor is accompanied by only one parent, an authenticated and signed authorization must be submitted by the absent parent together with a certified copy of his / her identity document.
