Localizado a 1300 metros de altitude, o distrito é um verdadeiro refúgio para quem busca dias mais calmos e encanta seus visitantes pela tranquilidade, atrativos naturais e pelo clima ameno que possui, mesmo em épocas mais quentes. Rodeado por montanhas, Lavras Novas possui um belo conjunto de construções no estilo colonial, com destaque para as casinhas coloridas espalhadas por todos os cantos da cidade e a Igreja de Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres.
