Barb grew up in downtown Toronto, graduated from Ryerson in Fashion Design and Merchandising and raised her family in Waterloo. After 30 years in the event planning industry it was time for a change. In 2012 she purchased a beautiful century home in Markdale that was in need of some tender loving care. In January of 2013 she proudly hung her "VACANT" sign on the side of the house and turned a historic treasure into a bustling guest house. As Barb spent her childhood skiing in the area she is very familiar with Markdale and the surrounding area. Barb's years in the event planning industry are a perfect fit for tour director and she is full of ideas to fill your day. Barb's passions are travelling, skiing, genealogy research, antiquing, garage sales, and decorating.

Danby House is located in the village of Markdale. We are centrally located for many major attractions in Grey and Bruce Counties. Markdale is exactly half way between Toronto and Tobermory. Often guests will make Danby House the home base for travel throughout the area. Enjoy great skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, hiking, biking, golfing and more in the Beaver Valley area. There are many, fine dining opportunities as well as wineries, cideries and craft breweries to tour and sample. Several major art tours happen over the summer and fall months. So many great attractions are nearby. Scandinave Spa, the village at Blue Mountain and the Georgian Bay Shoreline is 45 mins to the east. Sauble Beach is 55 mins to the northwest. Owen Sound is 30 mins north of Danby House and Tobermory is 1 hr 45 mins north of here.

Neighborhood info

Markdale is a small town centrally located on Highway 10. Just one set of traffic lights in our town. Guests often comment how quiet and peaceful the town of Markdale is. We often joke with guests that we are in the middle of nowhere but central to everything! You can meander the back-roads of the area on your way to all the major attractions. Ditch your GPS "fastest route" and you will find views and vistas that are spectacular. Check out the vineyards, cideries, breweries, general stores, eateries, antique shops and galleries along the way.
