Founded as part of a broader effort to showcase the Gaspé region, the Gîte du Mont-Albert is closely tied to the creation of Gaspésie National Park, established in 1937 to protect the natural beauty of Mount Albert and Mount Table (Monts McGerrigle), preserve the Gaspé caribou and the St. Anne River salmon, and support the region’s tourism development. Construction of the lodge began in 1938 as an integral part of the plan to welcome visitors into this natural environment. Interrupted during World War II, the project was completed in 1950, when the property officially opened to the public, becoming one of Québec’s first mountain lodges. Today, the hotel features 60 rooms and 20 chalets. For over 70 years, the Gîte du Mont-Albert has welcomed travelers to the heart of breathtaking landscapes, maintaining a longstanding tradition of hospitality and privileged access to nature, in keeping with the park’s original mission.
