"Le Joyau" means jewel, and our chalet really is a jewel nestled in the Swiss Alps! It is comfy, cosy, and has the most stunning views across the valley. A peaceful place to rest after a day of activity on the slopes or hiking or biking through the most incredible landscapes. Or simply a place to just be, whilst drinking in the views and the fresh mountain air. Please note: we usually only accept bookings from Saturday-Saturday although we will happily consider requests for a different changeover day outside of peak periods (Chrismas/New Year and February ski holidays). Please contact us if you would like to make such a request.
We are a Swiss/British family living close to Lake Geneva. The mountains are our passion: between us we have clocked up almost 80 years of skiing, most of them in this fantastic 4 Vallees ski region. We also love it after the snow has melted - the colours give a whole new dimension to the fabulous views and plus, what better way to recce these off-piste trails in complete security?! We love it here and we hope our guests love it as much as we do.
The skiing is world class, with every level of skier catered for in over 400km of marked pistes. The lifts are a 10-minute walk from the chalet and the free shuttle bus also passes close by. Nendaz is smaller and more family friendly than its more famous neighbour, Verbier, and we frankly prefer it - we don't need the bling in our mountains, thank you! The changes of the seasons bring a whole new dimension - from the bright green shoots of new spring growth, fed by the release of nutrients trapped in the snow giving dazzling floral displays, to the heat of the summer, crickets blaring in the alpine pastures, to the autumn/fall colours contrasting with the snowy peaks above, there's something for everyone. Many of the lifts stay open in spring, summer and autumn so you can still get up high for some stunning walks or bike rides. Closer to the chalet are the bisses, a network of ancient irrigation paths that criss-cross the countryside, setting lovely easy hiking trails for the whole family. There are lots of nice places to eat/drink/hangout in Nendaz too: Edelweiss for apres-ski and well-priced meals, Cactus Cantina for pizza and tex-mex, le Mont Rouge for a splurge.
