Wine experiences from Graach The Moselle region is Germany's oldest wine region and one of the classic European wine-growing regions. "Today, more than 4,000 winegrowers in over 100 wine villages cultivate around 8,800 hectares of vineyards with around 55 million vines along the 243 kilometres of the German Moselle between Perl on the French border and Koblenz". Viticulture on the Moselle dates back to pre-Roman times with the Celts (2500 years ago). The Romans then operated large wine presses and since then the wine culture of the Moselle has been preserved and developed to this day. From the Middle Ages until French rule around 1800, the Middle Moselle belonged to the Archbishopric of Trier and the vineyards to churches and monasteries, as the names of some vineyards such as Graacher Himmelreich or Abtsberg still bear witness today. Tourism was added in the 19th century: health cures in the mild Moselle climate, combined with exclusive wine enjoyment, quickly became a trend - initially, of course, for the nobility, right up to Kaiser Wilhelm I.

Property info

Our hotel in Graach on the Moselle is often used as a starting point for hikes, bike tours and excursions to Trier (Germany's oldest city with a lot of Roman culture), Idar-Oberstein (the German gemstone town) or other Moselle towns. Short walks through the village or to Bernkastel (almost 2 km) and wine tasting at a winemaker are also popular. There are many opportunities for this in our Riesling growing area with the world-famous sites Himmelreich, Dompropst and Abtsberg. Here are a few tips about holidays and wine, we have more of them in our house.
