We aim to create an atmosphere where our guests feel welcome and comfortable. - a home away from home. Ellekaer-Gaard is located in a rural area, away from the hustle and bustle of city life, although only half an hour's drive from Aalborg and Frederikshavn. In these peaceful surroundings you can enjoy being close to nature and yet within easy reach of points of interest in Vendsyssel. If you would like a packed lunch for your excursions, we'll be happy to arrange for this. If you would be interested in barbecuing, that can be arranged too.

I am an author/writer and freelance journalist and have just published my seventh book with the next one to follow shortly. I lived ten years in Australia and needed more space around me when I moved back in Denmark - and I found that here in the North of Jutland. My husband Radan is from Bosnia. He fixes everything around here, cares for the dog and the cats and makes wonderful organic omelettes for our breakfast guests. We both love living in the country, we love travelling and discovering other places and cultures. When we are not travelling, we enjoy receiving and welcoming visitors at our place. It is important for us that their stay is a pleasant one and that it will have given them a positive impression of our region and our country.

Ellekaer-Gaard is located at the foot of the Great Jutland Ridge and close to the old army road with hiking and bicycle tracks through landscape formed by the last ice age. Just a stone's throw away from us is Voergaard Castle which is open for guided tours most of the year and is venue for a medieval festival in mid July. The Dorf Millhouse is a museum and is within walking or cycling distance (4 km). From nearby Praestbro (5 km) it's possible to hire a canoe and go gently down the stream to the coastal village of Voersaa. The closest beaches are Asaa and Lyngsaa on the eastern coast. Asaa also has a small harbour and a harbour museum. Saeby is also on the eastern side and is a charming town with an attractive beach and marine harbour featuring gourmet fish restaurants. Frederikshavn has its 'Palm Beach', the Bangsbo Fortress Museum with cannons and bunkers from WW2 and offers good shopping. Ferries to Norway and Sweden leave from Frederikshavn Port and are reached within 30 minutes from our place.
