The house is well designed and wonderfully cosy, with a luxurious and stylish feel. Great care has been taken with quality, pleasing colours, and a sense of homeliness. The books on the shelves are in several languages — feel free to read one, borrow one, or swap it with one you’ve brought along.
We really love books and music, which is also reflected in Hyggehuset. We both work in education and are also volunteers at the Tønder Festival. Majbrit is additionally a ceramic artist with her own workshop, just a few minutes’ walk from Hyggehuset.
Tønder is a cosy old town, and Hyggehuset is very centrally located in a quiet area. In one direction, you can quickly reach the pedestrian street with restaurants, parks, museums, and more. In the other direction, you soon find yourself out in the marshland, where you can experience the natural phenomenon known as “Black Sun.” From here, it is not far to the border shops, the Wadden Sea, and the West Coast. In season, it is possible to join an oyster safari, where you take part in going out and “harvesting” oysters yourself.
