The first floor of the house at Valuoja pst. 23 belonged to Tõnis Konks (b17.08.1909 - d27.03.1998), who was my great uncle. I am Kaire Kalve, and I started the renovation work, together with my husband Cristian and father Edgar, in November 2019, and the work was completed in July 2020. We used only high-quality construction materials during our building. It was an exciting task to match modern and old-fashioned furniture. The entire interior design has been developed and executed by me. Simultaneously with the construction work, we had a chest of drawers that belonged to my grandmother, Alice (b. Konks) Raavel’s (b.06.02.1913 - d03.03.2004) from the birth farm PIKKALI in Viljandi County, Kõo Parish, renovated. Now a dark brown chest of drawers from the second half of the 19th century adorns the living room and reminds us that high-quality things made with the heart can last for centuries. The rest of the apartment has been decorated with unique masterpieces by mostly modern Estonian manufacturers and designers. We are happy that the family heritage has been restored with dignity.

My name is Kaire Kalve and my grandmother was born and lived in Viljandi county. Hence, I have renovated this family heritage apartment together with my husband and father. I love beautiful Viljandi since childhood very much. Now, when I have 2 children on my own, I love to travel with my family all over the world. Viljandi, which received city rights in 1283, has been the center of the region for many centuries. Already in the 14th century, the city's favorable location in relation to connecting roads made it a great place to trade, stop, and live for merchants and travelers. The ruins of a medieval fortress, a city wall, churches, and an architecturally fascinating old town speak of the cultural richness of the place. Today's Viljandi is known for its numerous cultural and sports events. Unique art galleries, the Ugala Theater, and the Viljandi Culture Academy of the University of Tartu play a big role in the spiritual life. The summer Viljandi Folk Music Festival attracts fans of folk music both near and far, the winter folk dance festival makes people dance even in the coldest weather. The picturesque lake in the valley offers pleasant opportunities for spending time all year round, for both big and small, for both our own people and for guests.
