He and his staff will do everything in their power to make you feel welcome, and to help you to get the most out of visiting this beautiful region. Elephantine Island is a small, tranquil island, located 5 minutes by ferry from Aswan city. During ancient times, Elephantine was a fort that stood just before the first cataract of the Nile, at the border between the kingdoms of Egypt and Nubia. According to ancient Nubian religion, Elephantine was the dwelling place of Khnum, the ram-headed god. You can walk the ruins of the temple of Khnum and marvel at these ancient wonders. Now, the island is populated by four main Nubian families. It is safe and friendly, with children playing in the streets, and colourful Nubian artwork decorating the buildings. With no cars or motorbikes, it is quiet and easy to walk around and explore the various attractions. When you visit, you won’t want to leave!
