Castellfollit de la Roca is a medieval village built on a volcanic plug. Built on a cliff made of hexagonal basalt columns, the cliff rises 60m above the river Fluvia and the houses perch right on the edge. The house is in the old medieval part and is located above the cliff. The accommodation comprises a large bedroom and en suite bathroom. The room has a double bed. On request, I can add a single bed. Guests will also have access to an open plan sitting room/breakfast room and the balcony - that projects over the cliff! The views from the balcony overlook the river and look to the mountains. Breakfast or a glass of wine on the balcony is not to be missed. If you are lucky and the wind direction is good, hot air balloons will slowly drift by while you have breakfast on the balcony.

I have lived in the area for many years and am available for information during your stay. I am a keen paraglider pilot, skier, hiker, cyclist and diver. Castellfollit de la Roca is famous as the village on the cliff. It is extremely picturesque and photogenic. Based in the La Garrotxa Volcanic Natural Park it is surrounded by volcanoes and hills. The village has 1000 inhabitants, but is extremely well served with amenities. It has many restaurants (for lunch) and bars, shops, hairdressers, pharmacy, 2 regionally famous bakeries and a municipal swimming pool. The village is a good base for hiking in the Alta Garrotxa, visiting volcanoes, climbing, cycling and there are opportunities to swim in a nearby gorge or in the lake in Banyoles. There are many, many other outdoor activities available. There are many local fiestas to soak up the local culture. Catalunya is famous for its excellent cuisine restaurants in Girona province have been voted the best restaurants in the world several times. We are surrounded by other beautiful villages and we are 50 mins from the beach and skiing (by car). You can easily go for a day trip to Barcelona or Girona by public transport. It is possible to arrive in my village from both Barcelona and Girona airport by public transport.
