Casa Joy sits 650 metres above sea level, just six minutes from the motorway, so getting around the island is easy. There's not much in the village itself (just how we like it!) apart from a small children's play area and an old wine press in a cave, but plenty of hiking trails pass through the village, including a relatively short hike that will take you to the abandoned hillside village of Las Fuentes. We recommend a car, but there is a bus stop within a five-minute walk (a steep climb back up though!). The beaches, shops and restaurants of Playa San Juan and Alcalá - both traditional Canarian fishing villages - can be reached in 12 minutes by car, while the tourist attractions of Costa Adeje are just a 15-minute drive. The main town of Guia de Isora (six minutes by car) has a cute cafe bar on a beautiful church plaza and is definitely worth visiting. What we consider the best steak restaurant on the island is in the next village just three minutes' drive down the road, and the waterside restaurants of La Caleta are a must-visit (15 minutes by car), as are the spectacular cliffs of harbour town, Los Gigantes (20 minutes by car).
