At the historically valuable power plant area of Pärus Fors, we offer good accommodation; mainly in the two cottages that a long time ago functioned as the power plant manager’s and the managing director’s home. Both cottages are located in a beautiful place surrounded by birches, bird cherries and syringas only 70 m from the rapids of river Lappfjärds å. Both cottages are suited for six persons and have fully equipped kitchens, with oven and cooker, pots & pans, cutlery, plates, glasses & mugs, microwave oven, coffee maker, electric kettle, toaster, fridge and freezer. There are also toilets, shower, TV, wireless internet and other modern conveniences. Pärus Fors is situated close by the river Lappfjärds å in the village of Perus 12 km east of Kristinestad. The area is a living museum reminding us of bygone times, when electricity was something new and modern in the community. Pärus Fors has been administrated by the village society Perus Byaförening since april 2002.

The power plant was one of the first plant in Finland that already in the year 1918 started to produce electricity with a turbine driven generator and today it is one of the last power plants of its kind still in use. The area of Pärus Fors is connected by a footbridge to Storholmen – a wood of tree hectares and a beautiful island between the rapids. Storholmen is a protected paradise for all nature lovers. There is a nature trail around and right across the island. At Mother’s day Storholmen is covered with wood anemones and a couple of weeks later you can enjoy the scent of the bird cherries and lilies of the valley. Later in summer the island is covered by various coloured flowers, for example yellow cow-wheat. The leaf trees of Storholmen attract many birds, and you can for instance see the great spotted woodpecker, lesser spotted woodpecker, grey-headed woodpecker and treecreeper and hear the nightingale and if you are lucky you might see a common otter playing on the bank. In the spring the flooding water and the breaking up of the ice, and the shiny backs of sea trout jumping over the weirs is an unforgettable sight.
