It has been carefully furnished to offer all the comforts necessary for a stay in the Bay of Somme. Everything is within walking distance — no need for a car. Le Crotoy is the only beach exposed to the south in northern France, 2 hours from Paris.

Le Crotoy — a village steeped in history In the Middle Ages, Le Crotoy was one of the most important ports on the English Channel. Its medieval fortress dominated the bay and controlled maritime traffic between France and England. It was from these quays that Joan of Arc was taken by boat in 1430, following her capture at Compiègne, on her way to Rouen where she would be tried and condemned. A commemorative plaque in the village centre still marks this historic moment today. In the 19th century, the arrival of the railway transformed the town into a fashionable resort for Parisians and artists alike. Jules Verne lived here for several years, sailing the bay aboard his yacht the Saint-Michel and writing parts of his celebrated novels. Seurat and Toulouse-Lautrec both painted here, captivated by the extraordinary and ever-changing light of the Baie de Somme. Today Le Crotoy retains its soul: Picardy brick houses, an active fishing harbour, a steam railway since 1887, a lively weekly market and quiet lanes where time slows down. 5-minute walk from the house: • South-facing sandy beach — the only one in northern France, perfect for families • Fishing harbour lively from sunrise at the return of the local trawlers • Town centre: shops, restaurants and a fresh-catch fish market • Steam railway linking Le Crotoy to Saint-Valery-sur-Somme and Cayeux-sur-Mer Families: supervised beach in season, land sailing, kitesurfing, kayaking.
