This self-contained self-catering cottage is situated near the beautiful village of Ste. Thérence, department of Allier. It is part of an old Auvernat family farmhouse , a modern conversion but retaining original ceiling beams. Aux Roses is ideal for 1 or 2 guests or small families, for taking a break in their journey, or to use as a base when attending shows and competitions in Montluçon and Marcillat en Combraille. It is close to the GTR performance go-karting track, which holds karting and Moto GT races, and has other outdoor activities. Aux Roses is also just 15 minutes from the spa towns of Evaux les Bains and Neris les bains . The sunny south facing garden includes a small terrace for outdoor dining. The garden is fully enclosed and has a barbeque and an array of solar lights to illuminate the garden at night. The interior is completely new throughout, light and airy with high beamed ceilings, a modern shower unit, and a 2m long bed. The lounge is open plan and the compact kitchen has a washing machine. As standard there is a welcome pack that includes tea, coffee, milk and a light breakfast. For the security of our guests we have fitted child safety locks to the upstairs windows, a smoke alarm, and there is a fire extinguisher in the kitchen. There is a TV, DVD player and a selection of films available for use as well as a small selection of books, games and toys. In 2024 we carried out extensive refurbishment of the exterior of the property and installed solar panels.

Your hosts are Martine and Terry from England, retired from professional life and enjoying the tranquil beauty of this part of France with Princess Maisie. We live adjacent to the gîte and so are available to welcome you personally and make suggestions about restaurants, things to do and places to visit. If you are travelling with pets we will also put you in touch with the local veterinary surgeon to arrange passports and vaccinations. We have a moderately sized vegetable plot and a small orchard, and have developed the flower gardens in front of the buildings to attract butterflies and birds. We take time out to explore our surroundings, particularly the wonderful walks nearby, and we also enjoy cycling along the Canal du Berry and taking picnics alongside the river Cher. We are committed to recycling and composting and provide kitchen waste recycling buckets for our guests to use, which we empty into one of our 4 composting bins. We chose the name Aux Roses for the beautiful pink rose bush that was growing in the garden when we first saw the building. We look forward to meeting you.

This rural spot is very quiet at night. The cottage is a few kilometers from the nearest supermarkets but there are restaurants and cafés locally. This is a very popular area for cyclists, walkers and hikers and the cottage stands on the circular walk to the ruins of the chateau of l'Ours, and takes in the church of Ste Thérence which boasts the tomb of Ste Thérence in its grounds. The popular spa towns of Néris-les-bains and Evaux-les-Bains, where one can enjoy relaxing thermal baths and health treatments, are a 15 minute drive from the cottage. There is easy access to a karting track, golf course and horse riding stables. Slightly further afield are the beautiful Forest of Tronçais and the amazing volcanic experiences of Vulcania and the Puy de Dome. For the more cerebral visitors this area is steeped in history and many towns can be explored easily as day trips including Montluçon, Clermont-Ferrand, Bourges, Moulins, Vichy and Aubusson. There are a number of cafés and restaurants in nearby villages and in Montluçon to suit a variety of tastes.
