According to many writings, Château de La Mar has been at the heart of Jongieux since 1244. Situated on the left bank of the Rhône, dominating the valley, Château de La Mar is firmly anchored in the Marestel hillside, considered by many to be one of the most beautiful terroirs in Savoie. Over the past centuries, its successive owners were lords who left their names to the hillside, hamlet, and castle. In late 2021, Mutualia, an agricultural mutual group, bought the castle and aimed to perpetuate the authentic know-how rooted in tradition. Château de la Mar has also become a charming Bed and Breakfast - a unique tourist stage combining the region’s history and the sweetness of life in the heart of Savoie.
