Chavasse House is one of three rental cottages that collectively sit in the grounds of Chavasse Farm, the old village dairy. Chavasse House is the original farmhouse built in 1922 when Hardecourt was rebuilt after the First World War. The house sleeps up to twelve guests and comprises; lounge and dining room traditionally furnished, with an open wood burning fire. The house has been described as a museum, with several display cases containing WW1 memorabilia and a library bookcase of two-hundred Somme and Great War books including local tourist information and self-guide walks for the surrounding area. In the barn is an additional fridge and freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. Chavasse House sits within established gardens, the house has its own small garden and shared grounds, BBQ areas and Rum Ration bar that is shared with the other two rental cottages.
We have lived in France for 15 years, living and working at Chavasse Farm. We live on site in a small apartment on the far side of the farm's barn. Out of sight but always available to answer questions and give advice. Richard is a full time battlefield guide and WW1 researcher.
Chavasse House is situated in the quiet village of Hardecourt aux Bois at the point where the British and French Armies launched into The Battle of the Somme. The Farm is within walking distance of some of the infamous battlefield sites, including Commonwealth War Graves Commission war cemeteries at Guillemont, Maricourt and Bernafay Woods to name but a few. Delville Wood is four minutes and Thiepval Memorial, The Ulster Tower and Albert are just fifteen minutes by car. Amiens and Arras are 40 mins and Paris 90 mins drive.
