We moved to the Puy de Dome to follow our dream of running a small camping and glamping site in beautiful countryside. We love it here and although we are newcomers, we already feel very much at home. We are still discovering this lovely area, which fits so well with our interests of walking, cycling and photography. We are also nature enthusiasts and are discovering how much of it there is without even moving off our site. We also love wild swimming so were delighted to discover that there is a lake just down the road.

Cool Under Canvas, is a small tranquil campsite set around a former farm in the beautiful green and rolling Combrailles countryside, in the department of Puy de Dome, Auvergne. We have three luxurious tents - a yurt (tent 1) and two bell tents (tents 2 & 3). Each is furnished with a king size bed (4-poster in the yurt) plus a daybed, which is set up as a sofa for couples or two single beds for families. We provide, sheets, bedding and towels. Outside each tent there is an eating area with table and chairs with parasol. All equipment for cooking and dining is provided in our communal covered terrace where each tent has its own fully equipped kitchenette and dining area - including gas stove and fridge. There is a shared microwave and 'Nespresso' coffee machine. We have a small above ground pool for shared use. The shared toilet and shower block is in the barn, just seconds away from the tents, where there is also a washing machine and washing up facilities. We have a mini-farm to delight children with pet pig and chickens. We have family board games and tourist information available.

Visitors come to this region for walking, hiking in the mountain range, the Chaîne des Puys - a UNESCO world heritage site, mountain biking on the many VTT routes around, and to visit the many tourist activities in the area. We are well placed for an excellent holiday in the Department of Puy de Dome, Auvergne - less than 30 minutes from Vulcania and other activities in the Auvergne Volcanic Natural Park, such as the train that goes to the summit of mount Puy de Dome. We are close to Volvic, source of the mineral water, an easy drive to elegant, stylish Vichy and 30 minutes to Clermont Ferarand, famous for rugby, its black volcanic cathedral and home to Michelin. Other outings include the wonderful Parc Animalier d'Auvergne, outdoor adventures at Super Besse, and visits to Lac Chambon or Lac des Fades with its aqua park, which is only 10 minutes and to the many waterfalls and caves in the area. The town of Pontaumur is a 5-minute drive away with supermarkets, shops, restaurants and cash point.
