For your reassurance, we also carry out the required daily checks for opening/closing and cleaning of the pool and communal facilities and can assist you to access help from local services if needed. We love that this area offers activities and attractions for all tastes: It is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts, being only a km from the Lacs de Haute Charente, in the Perigord national park. Bridleways and cycle trails pass the front door for exploration around the lakes, through sleepy hamlets and villages and around the Rochechouart meteor crater.

La Croix Gîtes comprises a cluster of cottages renovated from Charentaise stone barns to create modern and comfortable self-catering holiday cottages. There are 18 acres of gardens, a lake, meadows and woodlands and beautiful views in all directions. The cottages' thick stone walls keep them cool in the summer and the combination of modern infrared heating and wood burners provide winter cosiness and charm. Guests share the heated pool (summer) and sauna (year round). Families love the covered play parks, and games room, with activities for children of all ages to enjoy whatever the weather. The cottages are well equipped for family cooking or you can eat out at lakeside bar/restaurants (1.5 km), or choose between Michelin starred and gothic chateaux restaurants, fine dining, gourmand menus or typical French auberges all within a 10 min drive. Supermarkets are only 10 mins away in the charming market towns of Chabanais and Rochechouart with restaurants, and local produce. A mere 45 min drive brings you to the bustling cultural cities (Angouleme and Limoges) for fashion, shopping malls, galleries and museums.

History lovers will enjoy 'Cassinomagus' (the largest Roman archaeological Park in France), mediaeval chateaux, Abbeys and churches and the chateaux trail of Richard the Lion-heart. Commemorating WW2 is the martyred village of Oradour sur Glane and there are museums, memorials and history trails honouring the resistance heroes of the region. Enthusiasts of sports and adventure will enjoy the great value water sports and horse riding at the lake, river kayaking, the Adventure park with acrobranche, a bungee jump and zip wires over the water. Velo-railing along old railway lines offers great fun for all the family and a trip to 'Vallee des singes' is a must for animal lovers and families with children. For a gourmande trip: discover Pineau des Charentes and visit the vinyards, enjoy tours and tastings at the world famous Cognac houses, chocolate making, or visit a different market every day of your stay.
