L’Horizon – Our Gîte for 8 Guests “Where serenity meets infinity” L’Horizon is the largest gîte at Domaine du Vertendre, offering panoramic views, a swimming pool, a terrace and BBQ. It is ideal for families or groups of friends of up to eight guests who wish to enjoy peace, togetherness and breathtaking views over the valley. Inside, you will find a bright living area with a comfortable seating and dining space, as well as a fully equipped kitchen with everything you need for relaxed, convivial meals. Outside, the spacious private terrace invites you to long lunches, lazy afternoons in the sun or atmospheric evenings around the BBQ, with the setting sun as your backdrop. Upstairs are four comfortable bedrooms, a separate toilet and a bathroom with bath/shower combination and a second toilet. Each bedroom is carefully decorated and has its own atmosphere: Bedroom 1: king-size bed, walk-in shower and washbasin Bedroom 2: king-size bed Bedrooms 3 & 4: each with two single beds (which can be joined to form a double bed) From 1 April to 30 September, guests can enjoy the swimming pool, the sun terrace with loungers and the cosy pool bar — an idyllic spot to relax under the French sun. For the youngest guests there is a small paddling pool with water toys, while others can enjoy the trampoline, swing, table tennis table or the sports field for badminton, volleyball or football. Enjoy a delicious breakfast or a convivial table d’hôtes, lovingly prepared by us. After many years in the Netherlands — where Ilonka ran her own practice as a therapist in Traditional Chinese Medicine (acupuncture, herbal medicine, Tuina, Qigong and lifestyle coaching), and Joost worked as a chef for renowned establishments — we felt it was time to live closer to nature. Closer to the peace, the space and the pure flavours that give life its colour. Here, in the heart of the Haute-Vienne, we found what we were looking for: simplicity, authenticity and time to enjoy what truly matters. Our passion lies in pure, honest food — seasonal, vibrant and full of life. Vegetables, fruit, nuts and herbs take centre stage in our kitchen. Much of what we use comes from our own vegetable and herb gardens, where everything grows in harmony with nature’s rhythm. The scent of fresh thyme, mint and rosemary naturally finds its way into the kitchen. We do not cook exclusively vegetarian, as the richness of this region makes the culinary experience truly special. Ducks and truffles from the Périgord, tender meat from Limousin cattle, cul noir pork from the Haute-Vienne and characterful wines from the Corrèze — all reflect craftsmanship and a love for good food. Vegetarians and epicureans alike feel at home at our table, where Joost cooks with passion and creates long, atmospheric evenings — sometimes lasting until the final aperitif at the pool bar.
