The coastline of the Loire boasts a rich and varied landscape. From sandy beaches to rocky coves and craggy shorelines and from hidden creeks to seaside resorts, both walkers and beach-goers will find plenty to entertain and occupy them. La Baule itself is a perfect 180-degree semi-circle, creating an ideal south-facing bay protected from any westerly wind and making the resort a member of the very exclusive “World’s prettiest bays” club alongside resorts including San Francisco. On one side, visitors can find the resort’s sandy beach and accompanying beach clubs and on the other, the sumptuous and unusual villas which are tucked in the heart of the resort, ideal for exploring on foot or by bike. Batz/Mer itself (known as “le bourg de Batz” by locals) is the third “Cité de caractère” of the Loire Atlantique region, surrounded by the ocean and its wild coastline and beaches on one side and salt-water marshes on the other.
