Really nice owner, lovely, very rustic apartment with everything you need for a peaceful few days in the country. And Donnas tomato soup is probably the best remedie for a tired traveller. A bit remote, but really lovely.

Prachtig historisch gebouw!

Le Calipel is a short drive from the Normandy ferry ports and perfectly positioned to explore. A short drive from the autoroute and easy to find yet far enough away to be in the heart of the countryside. Normandy is a beautiful area with a comfortable temperate climate. Steeped in history from the arrival of the Vikings through medieval times, the Second World War to the present, there is something to interest all. The peace and tranquillity of the surrounding countryside coupled with Le Calipel being at the end of a lane make a perfect location. The small roads lead to quaint villages and sites steeped in history. Le Calipel has a natural spring fed lake and the garden is a haven for wildlife. My gite is open all year round so if you want a quiet Christmas where you can just relax, this is the place. The eclectic mix of antique and vintage furniture, and the modern necessities offer you a special place to stay. You have the choice of having a bath in an antique double ended bath, or a shower in a spacious shower. There are little additions that you won't notice at first that make Le Calipel a special place to stay. Rekindle the romance in your life!
I moved to France 14 years ago to be with my lover and to start a new adventure as the proprietor of a gite. I fell in love with France when I visited with my family but never dreamt I would one day live here! Floyd piqued my interest in French food so it really is where I am meant to be! My gite is never static. It is like a grown up's doll's house so if I see a picture or something I like, I will get it, if it works, of course! I love the vintage and antique style, so my gite is furnished with Art Deco furniture but provides you with all the modern comforts. I enjoy preserving produce from the garden and hedgerows, so your welcome pack is brimming full of artisanal goodies which includes eggs from our very happy free range hens. I love crafting, so you will find soap, made by me, in a pretty box, nestIed in a bed of tissue paper. I collect vintage sewing machines so if you would like to sew on a treadle sewing machine from the 19th century, just ask! In my previous life, I worked for the NHS and enjoyed meeting and helping people and this has carried on to my present life. I love to meet different people, make them comfortable and know when they need solitude.
If it is peace and quiet you are looking for, then this is the perfect area! Situated in the heart of the Normandy countryside but within easy reach of all the well known attractions and some little gems that aren't so well known. St Vigor des Monts was liberated by American troops who landed at Omaha beach and Le Calipel was reputedly stayed at by Rommel and while the effects of WW2 are not apparent at Le Calipel, there are signs in the wood overlooking the village. If you fancy an evening stroll, we are at the end of a no through road which leads to fields that you can visit when the cows are absent. A little stream runs in a tiny valley and you can quite often be entranced by the aerial ballet of the demoiselles. Although in the heart of rural Normandy, we are in easy reach of what this beautiful area has to offer - from the famous sites, such as Mont St Michel to the lesser known attractions and to local places a lot of people have never heard of.
