There are some wooded walks that descend from the chateau, along the river in the valley below. If you like contemporary art the museum is a must ... Housed in the stunning Chateau is an international gallery / museum of contemporary art … it offers a unique experience of discovering spaces that combine outstanding historical architecture, with heritage and contemporary art. In situ artworks take place in the old rooms of the castle, and spill out onto the courtyard outdoors. Saturday Market Day at St Junien is excellent, running through the streets down to the covered market hall. There is also a lovely deco cinema in St Junien if you like movies ... as well as a super exciting indoor / outdoor public swimming centre Confolens on the Vienne is just beautiful + has a wonderful festival of world music in the summer - but great to visit any time (and nice cafe - Chez Naomi) ... if you have time visit the cities of Angouleme and Limoges ... only an hour from Roch
