Breakfast was phenomenal and the host actually tailors it to your requests. Owner did most of the renovations himself and there is a very nice combination of old and new inside the structure. I highly recommend the experience.

Le Chateau, a 300 year old historic monument, offers 60 square metres of spacious accommodation within an historic setting in the medieval town centre of Chateauponsac, Haute Vienne, Limousin and is open all year round. Many of the original features have been retained and restored in sympathy with its construction during the Rococo period. Conveniently located within close walking distance in the town centre are a variety of shops including a supermarket, brocante / cafe, pharmacy, bar with restaurant, pizzeria (dine in and takeaway, advance booking essential during holiday season), delicatessen, boulangerie, post office, bank and Tabac (that includes an outdoor dining area). Le Chateau is located within easy walking distance to Gartemps Valley, La Chapelle Notre Dame de Toute Bonte, L'Eglise Saint Thyrse dating back to the 11th and 12th centuries and hiking trails.
Paul, a New Zealander and Melissa, an Australian have traveled extensively throughout the world before deciding to retire to France and renovate and restore a 300 year old chateau while enjoying the sedate lifestyle and immersing ourselves into the varied and deep tapestry of French history.
Châteauponsac is an ancient fortified town where you can admire monuments from the Middle Ages, such as a Benedictine priory, a Romanesque church, the Church of St. Thyrsus and a Roman bridge. Stroll through the suburb of Moustiers, a historic district and one of the most picturesque areas in the town, where many craftsmen once worked. Houses from the 15th and 16th centuries as well as an 18th-century mansion complete the historical heritage of this charming little town of character. Built on a rocky spur, Châteauponsac offers superb views over the Gartempe Valley, named after the river that runs peacefully through the municipality. Another marvel is the terraced gardens which overlook the Gartempe Valley and explain why the town is known as the Pearl of the Gartempe. Lovers of art and history must be sure to visit the René Baubérot Museum, located within the former priory. Dedicated to folk arts and traditions, it also offers reconstructions of Limousin interiors and an archaeological collection. For a pleasant outing in the countryside, there are a number of short and long hiking trails around Châteauponsac which offers beautiful views of the town.
