Our large, characterful house dates back to 1702 and has plenty of charm. It is surrounded by a landscaped garden with a heated pool which guests have exclusive access to at certain times of day. The gardens feature a wide range of flora and fauna and overlook our paddocks, where our 2 horses roam. The property sits up at the top of a valley with wonderful, far-reaching views and offers easy access to the local 'voie vert' - a communal pathway that provides miles of country paths following the route of the River Vendee. If you have your own paddle boat or canoe, you can access the river from within the village and it is popular with anglers. The Chambre d'Hote is located on the ground floor and has it's own entrance and a private terrace to the rear. Guests are welcome to wander around the garden and use the pool subject to access times We also have 2 house cats - both friendly but shy so although not allowed in the guest area, you may encounter them in the garden. We will happily accept young babies and can provide a cot, but please note the chambre d'hote room itself room, is not ideally suited to mobile toddlers.

We are a brother and sister who moved to France a couple of years ago. Aside from running our Chambre d'Hote, we also have Le Jardin des Bosquets Gite - a three bedroom cottage sleeping 6-8+ people and Le Jardin des Bosquets - Petit Gite - a smaller version of the gite for 2-4 people. Stephen also works as a producer in the film world and I teach English as a foreign language and we host 'sejour Linguistique' - English language immersive holidays. Stephen has a real passion for cars and music whilst my real passion is horses. Just a quick note on check in times: whilst we normally ask people to check in around 3-3.30pm, but we can be very flexible on this - we just need to know in advance!

Onsite comforts aside, we’re perfectly placed for exploring and sit within easy reach of La Rochelle, Île de Ré, Niort, La Roche sur Yon, Nantes, Le Puy du Fou, Mervent Forest and the Marais Poitevin (Green Venice). A little farther brings you to Vendée’s beaches, ILe de Noirmoutier, and the Charente coast. Just 5 minutes walk from us is the community greenway that stretches for hundreds of kilometers following the path of the River Vendee. You can walk or cycle safely here and there is great fishing off the banks of the river (daily license and fishing maps are available nearby in Fontenay le Comte) plus if you have your own kayak or small boat you are allowed to use it on local stretches of water. Please note that swimming is not allowed! The commune also has a free to use pool table and tennis court as well as some outdoor strength and balancing equipment. If you like the outdoors, the Southern Vendee and surrounding areas are perfect for you, with hiking trails, cycle routes, horse riding centers, boating activities and beautiful beaches all within easy walking or driving distance from us at Le Jardin des Bosquets.
