'Le Poirier' is perfect for singles, couples or a family with children that don't need a cot. Compact, comfortable & well-equipped, this independent holiday home has 2 main rooms, 'Le Cave' (the old wine store) and 'La Cabane' (originally a farm workshop). Part of Le Verger, a farmhouse sitting amidst rolling countryside, 'Le Cave' has 2 single beds . 'La Cabane' is a bed-sitting room with a large double bed (160 cm wide x 2m long!) plus a sofa, 2 armchairs and dining table with 4 chairs. There is a walk-in shower room off La Cabane.(walk-in) and a separate kitchenette. The garden is secure for children and the fenced, heated pool has a good shallow end. Choose your own style of holiday! Slow down and relax or try the games room on site (pool, table-tennis, darts, table football) or the many activities nearby: boules, fishing, golf, riding, sailing, walking, bicycle trails, shopping at the many local markets, zoos, activity centres, museums and the renowned châteaux and vineyards of the Loire Valley – your main problem is will to be deciding what NOT to do.
We are a 'retired' professional couple and have lived in France for many years in the farmhouse, Le Verger. Le Poirier is an independent gite at the back of Le Verger and all round us is glorious countryside. We have managed our local gites always with an eye to detail, cleanliness and comfort - to standards which are reflected in our customer reviews here, on Trip Advisor and in our own visitors' books. And it is these tributes from the joyful first- and return-visitors and the many friends we have made along the way which make the whole enterprise worthwhile. Indeed, many of our guests come back again and again.
Locally there are several good supermarkets and bakers within a 6 - 10 minute drive. The small town of Noyant (4km away) has a supermarket, 2 bread shops, 2 pharmacies, a health and dental centre, a mixture of other shops including a paper shop which does normal stationery supplies, clothes shop (very French), a Vision Express, 3 banks, a post office, 2 restaurants, 1 tabac , 2 bars, a heated swimming pool, good open play areas and park, and a pretty good market on Fridays especially for cheeses, speciality breads and cakes and meat, fresh fish, fruit, veg etc. Set between La Loire and Le Loir rivers, le Poirier is a perfect base for exploring the Loire Valley, known for its gentle climate as much as for its Chateaux and Vineyards. Our favourites are all within a family friendly length of drive and include Saumur (we love having a picnic outside the chateau on the grass looking down on the river La Loire). A similar drive takes you to many restaurants, all of which welcome families. There are Chinese, Italian and Indian restaurants as well as traditional French ones plus many take away options in Saumur from gourmet French to Pizzas.
