The new owner of Les Bruyeres is Roxann, a Californian expatriate who grew up in the Caribbean, a rather unusual new resident in Verteuil. Roxann has been coming to France since she was a teenager and has always dreamed of living somewhere where she could welcome guests from all over the world to her own B&B paradise. When she found Les Bruyeres, she knew it was the perfect property to turn her dreams into reality. Her aim is to anticipate your needs before you even know what they are, to make your stay enjoyable, comfortable and memorable, and to create a human bond by hoping that a friendship will develop over your repeated visits. Les Bruyeres gite and chambre d’hotes accommodation features two separate maisons connected by a partially covered courtyard with private off street parking right on the Charente River in the heart of the stunning fairytale chateau village of Verteuil sur Charente. The Les Bruyeres Gite has three rooms with ensuite bathrooms and the rooms can be rented individually as chambres d’hotes with breakfast served by your host Roxann, or it can be rented as a self catering standalone gite for larger groups, where you have full use of the facilities, including exclusive use of the kitchen and garden. The other maison is the Luxe Maison and it features two exquisitely large and unusually beautiful chambres d’hotes rooms with ensuite bathrooms. The Royale Suite and Nature Spa Suite both boast unique designs and private two person jacuzzi hot tubs in the rooms. When driving into Verteuil sur Charente from any direction, the stunning view of the castle is sure to make you gasp with awe. It is truly a magnificent piece of architectural history pulled right out of a fairytale. The entire village is quite picturesque with the River Charente meandering through it lazily. There are two main bridges, the one near the Old Moulin being the most famous with its castle view that looks just like a postcard. The second bridge of Verteuil looks right at Les Bruyeres Chambres d’hotes and the old convent, and we have a magnificent view on this very calm Charente tributary. The view here is particularly amazing because the river is so calm that it gives a mirror reflection of the sky and surrounding buildings. It’s a photographer’s dream. Verteuil features delicious and popular restaurants like Cafe Portebleu, Jeux de Pots, La Senechalerie, Le Moulin de Verteuil who makes the best brioche in all of France and Le Bistro des Douves. In the summer on the weekends La Senechalerie features live bands on their gorgeous patio overlooking the chateau, a magical place for French rural nightlife and an experience not to be missed while on your stay at Les Bruyeres. There are parks for picnicking, wonderful roads for bicycling, loads of places to fish, and charming nearby villages to explore. Angouleme is only 25 minutes away and it has a lovely old town with many boutiques and restaurant choices. Ruffec is a short five minute drive, where you can find groceries for your gite stay or mostly anything you need.
