Demeure des Payratons – A Castle Full of Stories Nestled in the countryside of Auvergne, this 19th-century stone château was once the private residence of Roger Besson, mayor of Saint-Gérand-le-Puy, Freemason leader, and one of France’s early champions of rural electrification. Today, Demeure des Payratons is run by a passionate foreign couple who have transformed the historic estate into a “living museum” where antique furnishings, elegant design, and heartfelt hospitality come together. The three suites each offer a private bathroom and views over the French lawn or the English garden. Interiors feature genuine antiques, high windows, and decorative fireplaces. Breakfast includes homemade strawberry jam, freshly baked baguettes, and regional cheeses. Guests are also greeted by the castle’s resident pets: 12-year-old dog Pearl and black cat Agate. Conveniently located near the N7 and just 25 km from Vichy, the château offers peaceful seclusion and timeless charm—ideal for romantic stays, cultural retreats, and intimate weddings.
