In the heart of the Périgord Noir, a guest house offering a different way to experience the Dordogne. Nestled in the village of Marquay, La Maison de Marquay places you right at the heart of the famous Sarlat–Les Eyzies–Lascaux ‘Golden Triangle’: castles, prehistoric caves and medieval villages are all within easy reach. Four spacious and tastefully decorated rooms await you for a stay that is as rejuvenating as it is inspiring. Between explorations, relax by the pool, lose yourself in a book in our reading corner, or set off on foot to discover the surrounding forests via the trails that start right in the village. Every morning, a gourmet breakfast is served on the terrace or in the conservatory, depending on the weather. And for evenings when you don’t feel like getting back in the car, our “dînette” offers a set menu, home-cooked using fresh, local and seasonal produce. Private parking on site.

Marquay is not just a stopover: it is a destination in its own right. This authentic village in the Périgord Noir is home to three remarkable sites within its own municipality, all accessible on foot or within a few minutes’ drive: Commarque Castle, a medieval fortress nestled in the Beune Valley, The Cap Blanc rock shelter, home to a 15,000-year-old frieze of carved horses, unique in the world, Puymartin Castle, a Renaissance residence inhabited since the 15th century, with its collections and the legend of the White Lady. And that’s just the start. Within a 30-minute radius, you’ll find an exceptional concentration of heritage sites: Sarlat-la-Canéda, one of France’s most beautiful medieval towns, with its golden alleyways and bustling markets, Lascaux IV in Montignac, a global sanctuary of cave art, Les Eyzies, the world capital of prehistory, and its decorated caves (Font-de-Gaume, Combarelles…), The Vézère Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, The castles of Beynac, Castelnaud and Les Milandes, which majestically overlook the Dordogne. Nature lovers, you’re in for a treat: oak and chestnut forests, hiking trails starting from the village, bike rides along the riverbanks and swimming in the river in summer. And for food lovers, the Périgord Noir is an open-air dining table. Foie gras, black truffles, walnuts and Périgord strawberries are the highlights of the local markets (the one in Sarlat, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, is a must-visit).
