The Saracens' house is an exceptional residence in the heart of the village of Beynac-et-Cazenac. It is the ideal place for a timeless stay in the Black Périgord. This historical house tastefully renovated offers all the comfort and modern luxury in a preserved setting. Very spacious, it welcomes families or large groups for high-end stays. The 27m long swimming pool is a balcony that overlooks the landscape of the Dordogne valley. The dining room and the living room are adorned with large walnut fireplaces in the fashion of Henry IV, while three other stone fireplaces allowed the other rooms to be heated. The vast dining room, illuminated by the stained glass windows of a mullioned window, has regained its original lime decor, with two shades of gray. The large marble-paved living room opens onto a balcony to the west. Over its wrought iron scrolls, over the slate roofs of the old houses of the village, the view is of the wild islands of Beynac surrounded by the river for more than a kilometer. For the youngest, a game room with table football and billiards is set up on the ground floor of the guest house. The kitchen is fully equipped with professional equipment and has its own dining area. You can concoct the typical dishes of the region by sourcing from local markets or producers, or benefit from the services of a professional chef on request. Be careful, access to the property is complicated. It is therefore essential that you study it before your arrival. If you are not able to carry your luggage in the alleys of the village, we have a valet parking service charged 50 Euro that must be reserved in advance. We will then meet you at the parking lot. Otherwise, you must walk to the property from the parking lot on your own.
The Sarrasins house takes its name from the land on which it was built, at the foot of the cliff of the Château de Beynac, whose oldest tower, now demolished, was called the Saracen tower. There is a large medieval cistern on the site, from which water was drawn from the top of the cliff, thirty-five meters above. The house was built in 1607, under Henri IV, in the period of prosperity which followed the end of the wars of religion. It was enlarged in the middle of the 18th century, under Louis XV, when the terraced gardens were created. It underwent a meticulous restoration in the early 2000s, led by the owner of the castles of Castelnaud and Marqueyssac, nearby. Seen from afar, the house with ocher plaster, thirty meters long, seems to extend the cliff of Beynac. Its 80 centimeter thick stone walls keep it cool in summer and warm in winter.
